Counties

I began chasing counties in earnest in October, 2000 when I was stuck at home for a few days with back problems. On February 16, 2004 at 0208Z, I worked N9JF/M on 40M CW in Howard, MO for #3077 mixed mode. Thanks for making the special trip, Jim! My last five counties were:

  1. KG5J/M - Yell, AR (CW) - November 22, 2003
  2. WB4VFN/M - Letcher, KY (CW)- December 13, 2003
  3. KD0FW/M - Morris, KS (SSB)- January 19, 2004
  4. AA0QO - Phillips, KS (SSB) - January 31, 2004
  5. N9JF/M - Howard, MO (CW) - February 16, 2004

Thanks to the many mobiles and net control operators who helped make this possible.

My father W1JR holds award #403 dated 19 October 1982, mixed band/mode.

I am member R-2929 of the Mobile Amateur Radio Awards Club (MARAC). Two other places to find information on county hunting are CountyHunter.net and the K3IMC County Hunter Web.

In addition to working counties on the 'net, I have entered many state QSO parties, as well as the MARAC CW contest in May. In 2002, I won the contest in the fixed (non-mobile) category. This is the first plaque I have ever won in a contest! I repeated in 2003 and 2004.
