Contest Cluster Survey

This survey is to study the use of DX clusters and filtering during contests.  The results will be E-mailed to Jim Reisert AD1C.

For the purposes of this survey, the term "cluster" refers to any type of electronic (non-voice) spotting network (i.e. RF, Internet, etc.)

Please select your answers from the drop-down boxes and click the SUBMIT button at the bottom.

  1. Do you configure your cluster to filter spots during a contest?

If the answer to the above question is NO, why not? (Then skip to #5 below)

  2. Do you filter specifically based on the rules for the given contest (i.e. in CQWW CW, only show CW spots on the HF bands, no WARC)?

If the answer above is NO, please explain what you are using the filters to accomplish:

  3. Do you change filters during the course of a contest (i.e. show some bands during the day, other bands at night)?

  4. How difficult do you find it to set up the filters on your particular cluster?

  5. Are you happy with the current mode-specific frequency ranges, or would you like to see them changed, or even user selectable?

For USA or DX, the phone bands have different low ends. For CW or RTTY contests, the activity extends beyond what is normally the sub band. So depending on whether you are DX or USA or just what contest it happens to be, you may want to juggle the band edges somewhat (make them user selectable).

Would you use this feature if it was available?

  6. If there was a simple command to enable/disable filters for a given type of contest, would you use it?  Here are some examples:

    • Only CW spots on the HF (no WARC) bands
    • Only SSB spots from Asia on the HF (no WARC) bands (All-Asia, outside Asia)
    • Only RTTY spots from North America (NAQP RTTY)

If the answer above is NO, please explain why not.

  7. If there was an option to setup different filtering for different bands, would you use this feature? I.e. world wide on 20M and perhaps more local for 160M?

  8. Name and/or Callsign (optional)
